PRIVATE  PILOT  CERTIFICATE
To obtain a private pilot certificate, a person must:

Be at least 17 years old.

Have a minimum of 40 hours of flight time.

Must have a Class III medical exam performed by a FAA designated physician.

Student pilots must show that they have satisfactorily completed the appropriate ground instruction
or home study course and be recommended to take a computerized written test.

The written exam must be passed with a score of 70%.

In the final stage before becoming a Private Pilot Certificate, a student must complete an oral exam
and practical check-ride with an FAA examiner.

As a private pilot, you can fly solo or with passengers.


Privileges and limitations 14CFR 61.113

1. Except as provided in paragraph (2) to (7), no person who holds a private pilot certificate may act
as PIC of an aircraft that is carrying passengers or property for compensation or hire, nor may that
person, for compensation or hire, act as PIC of an aircraft.


2. A private pilot may, for compensation or hire, act as PIC of an aircraft in connection with any
business or employment if:
 a. The flight is only incidental to that business or employment and

 b. The aircraft does not carry passengers or property for  compensation or hire


3. A private pilot may not pay less than the pro-rata share of the operating expenses of a flight with
passengers, provided the expenses involve only fuel, oil, airport expenditures, or rental fees.


4. A private pilot may act as PIC of an aircraft used in a passenger-carrying airlift sponsored by a
charitable organization described in paragraph (4)(g) and for which the passengers make donation to
the organization, when the following requirements are met:

5. A private pilot may be reimbursed for aircraft operating expenses that are directly related to search
and location operations provided the expenses involve only fuel, oil, airport expenditures or rental
fees and the operation is sanctioned and under the direction and control of:
i. A local state, or Federal agency or
ii. An organization that conducts search and location operations


6. A private pilot who is an aircraft salesman and who has at least 200 hours of logged flight time
may demonstrate an aircraft in flight to a prospective buyer.


7. A private pilot who meets 61.69 may act as PIC of an aircraft towing a glider.
